It is born from Arneis grapes grown in the Roero area, situated north of Alba, Langhe. It is one of the oldest white varieties of Piemonte known since 16th century.

Once upon a time, it was called Bianchetto o Bianchetta (di Alba) e Nebbiolo Bianco (white Nebbiolo). It is an autochthonous vine capable of expressing compound harmony, thanks in part to some months of fermentation in the bottle.

A curiosity; the word “arneis” takes its name from a word in piemontese dialect which means whimsical. It is like the positions of the vineyards which usually are in very steep positions, so difficult to handle.
